Sea weekSEA WEEK An amaizing experience discovering the spell of sea!!! In every day, during a week long, you will try new experiences. I will pick you up in my speedboat and toghether we can find out some of the secrets of sea. Well do different tipes of fishing, swimming far away in the sea, snorkeling and scooba diving. Also, well gather seafood and then well cook the catch at our restaurant. Let us introduce you in the seaworld!!! 1st Day Arrival day, welcome to our village!!!A warm and friendly welcoming from the locals will at first accompany your arrival at the village.Your hosts will be at your disposal, so as to inform you on the history of the area, as well as to resolve any possible questions or worries. The rest of the day will be free for walks near the beach or through the narrow streets laid with tiles. You may also choose to go for swimming or sunbathing, instead, taking advantage of the bright, Greek sun.2nd Day - Fishing by nets and by hooks Every morning, those who wake up at an early hour in the morning are the fishermen from Sfinari. Very early in the morning, they take their boats and they go to discover some of the tresure of the sea picking up their nets. It doesnt matter how rich or how poor is their catch, they enjoy every time doing this. Well follow them in the morning, enjoying to take part of their daily acitvities and feeling what they feel doing this. The fishing by hooks is the most popular all over the Greece, but in our village some of the locals make a tradition from this. They do fishing daily. Afternoon, well spend some hours out in the sea relaxing and fishing toghether. We try different techniques of fishing, in Nikos company. We do fishing from 30 meters deep to 150 meters trying to catch a local big fish. It is worth to try because who catch the biggest fish will be awarded.
3rd Day - Speargun fishing and snorkelingAnother famous activity in our village is speargun fishing. There are not so many people who practice it. It is very famous because of the very tasty fish which you can get it. It is a hobby for the people who practice it but, in the same time, a very complex activity. Your host, Nikos practice a proffesional speargun fishing and would love to share with you some of his experiences. We go out at sea, far away of turistical areas and populated places where you have also a great opportunity to do some snorkeling and to discover the underwater life in a natural setting. Nikos gives us a mask and a snorkel which help us to enjoy the fantastic coloured underwater view because of the variety of fish, seaweed, craps, sea turtles and a lot of others. Also, we can surprise Nikos during his free dives and, why not, stealing some of his secrets. It is a quite rare sight to see him free dive, in front of your eyes at 35 meters deep!!! To catch sea bass and bream. His average free dives are 2,5 3 minutes long!!! Fresh fish will never be more appreciated after such an experience.4th Day - Gathering seafoodIn our village, the people still practice ancestral acivities like securing by themselves the ingredients which they need to prepare a tasteful and healthy meal. They do it in a really traditional way without using any machine, taking small quantities which are enough just to supplie their needs. These acivities are specific to our village. The way we gather and then we cook them is unique and is used only here. In the third day, we accompany some locals picking up a part of these ingredients, specially: sea salt, a kind of local shells, sea weed, or langust (if we are lucky), in isolated places, known only by them, After we cook them in our special way at our taverna.5th Day Scooba diving or visit to Gramvousa island and Balos bay Who ever explored once deep waters, they will certainly come back to do it again!! With our suggestion we aim to offer you the great oppotunity exploring our sea (Cretan Sea, part of Aegean Sea), which is known for its mysterious waters and breathtaking underwater views. Our friend, Manolis, who is experienced 15 years in scooba diving, will give you the equipment necessary, compliment with all the informations which you need for your dive. Also, he will explain you everything which compose the underwater view. Because, scooba diving is not only a great number of great experinces and sensations, but also an extreme and complex sport, which cannot be explained with just words, our scooba diving programme is suggested to the people who practiced it before. Also, for our guests who have never dived before, but they are interested about, we can organize for them some diving lessons with Manolis, which take a week long, but we can guarantee you will count down the days until your next dive. For who doesnt take part at scooba diving activity, we will pass the borders of the village going in a very famouse cruise to Gramvousa island and Balos, the unique lagoon of Crete with its blue green waters, it pink sandy beach and famous shells!
6th Day Visit to the sefood market and Falasarna; cooking with my mother In my area the fish has one of the top priority. Kissamos, the town of my area has a small group of markets, where we can admire fresh local fish. There is a large variety of fish: from small sardine to sword-fish, sharks and tuna fish, which take you breathing watching them. After a week in the sea, we enjoy recognising the different kinds of fish. After our visit to the seamarket, we in Falasarna. There is one of the best beach in Europe with clean and cristal water and fine sand. There is also, the old city of Falasarna destroyed by the earthquake in the 14th century bCh. From that time, the fishing reperesents the main occupation for the people in this part of Crete. Afternoon, we follow the south route to our village, where we try to surprise my mother in her kitcken for a seafood cooking lesson. She will teach us some of her secrets preparing, in her unique way, stuffed cuttle fish and the famous kakavia fish soup. We can also do some sesonal activities, like fishing a kind of fish which we can find it only in september or calamari in october. We should mention that our programme is flexible and we are open to any suggestions. |
