SFINARI

A small, seaside village of about 150 habitants, located at the western side of Crete and surrounded by a wild and picturesque sea, Sfinari is the prior destination of many visitors from around the world. They cross hundreds and millions of miles every year not only to taste its incredible fish and lobsters, along with the delicious vegetables and greenery, but also marvel its natural beauties and come into conduct with the friendly and hospitable locals. That is Sfinari, Wedged as a nutshell in the small bay with the spellbinding rocks.

While crossing the road, you will make plenty of stops in order to marvel the exotic seaside as if you were in a plane, or to enjoy the incomparable sunset. But be ware and slow down in order to pass without a problem through the wild sheep and goats.

Never put your hand in the pocket for money as they will all surround you, expecting wine, bread, potatoes and whatever else can be eaten. You will also enjoy the intoxicating ordure of origanum, thyme, rosemary, sage tea and of a great number of other wild herbals. Climb up the mountain to marvel the gorgeous view but be careful not to be carried away and the night will find you there. Beware of the bees, too. If you happen to meet them, dont move quickly to frighten them, they wont hurt you.

If you are lucky you will find at the village a room to spend the night. One is for sure. You will find delicious food, fish, roasted or boiled, local meat and salads in one of the plenty taverns of the village.

Dont schedule the date of your return. You might need to stay longer. The Cretan tsikoudia, the homemade wine and the locals hospitality are intoxicating!
